Early Prime Day deals have kicked off ahead of October 8
If you haven't heard already, another Prime Day sale is coming soon. Like last year, the October sale is called Prime Big Deal Days and it's going to last a whopping 6 days, just like the July sale event. • See all early deals on Amazon
It's essentially a prelude to Amazon's Black Friday sale in Australia but gives you time to pick up a bargain or two (or three) before the other retailers start their Black Friday sales. And that's a good thing, because Black Friday 2024 is quite late in November, making it an ideal time to do your Christmas shopping. That said, don't dismiss the offers you'll see during Big Deal Days if you want to get started on prezzie buying early.
As for the deals to expect, Amazon has already revealed that we'll see offers from well-known brands like Dyson, Sennheiser, Sony, Bose, Shark, Ninja, Ecovacs Robotics and many more. As usual, Amazon has already started discounting its own Echo devices for Prime members, and there are also some other excellent deals that have dropped early. We'll keep this page updated throughout sale, cherry-picking only the best of the best deals and discounts – if it's worth your time, you'll find it here.

While not actually a deal per se as Amazon makes it sound, this is the price drop that Meta recently announced after the launch of the Quest 3S headset. And that makes this VR headset quite affordable, and there's a little value for money too, with one game and a free 3-month of Quest+ thrown in as bonuses.

This OLED sporting, Neon Switch is currently very slightly cheaper than Prime Day in July. Save AU$35.95

This is just an 18% discount and we think the price will drop further when Prime Big Deal Days start, but if you can't wait a week to find out, it's not a bad offer on what are one of the best noise-cancelling earbuds in Australia. For your money, you get impressive head-tracking immersive audio, better codec support and class-leading noise cancellation.

All colourways aside from Lunar Blue are discounted to this price using 10% off code EL300.
Save AU$155
17% is not a huge discount on a product that's been around a while now, but hey, that's Apple for ya – so hard to get with a more significant price drop. So if you've been lusting after the tech giant's one and only set of cans, the Space Grey colourway is going for AU$744. Note that the Green option available for less via the same listing is a used product coming from Amazon Warehouse.
Phones & tablets
Save AU$101.51
In our Galaxy A55 review, we called this phone the best-looking mid-tier phone on the market, and that's still true. A wonderful blend of glass and metal, the Galaxy A55 has a premium feel and budget friendly price tag – as well as a great camera, performance and an exceptional battery life. This discount is also very slightly cheaper than the AU$599 price on Prime Day in July.
Save AU$86
While not the lowest price we have seen the Tab A9+ on Amazon, the 23% discount here is the same as Prime Day in July, and a solid deal. This 11-inch, 1920 x 1200 tablet is great for everyday use – for yourself or one of the kids. While 64GB may not seem like much, you can add a microSD card for up to 1TB of extra storage.

Save AU$50
This is the latest releases of Amazon's smallest smart display, giving you not just all the Alexa smarts you can get, but also adding a 5.5-inch touchsceen that allows you to glance at weather updates, check calendar entries, control connected devices and make video calls. You can even stream some video on it and follow step-by-step recipes. We suspect this price will drop soon, but a 30% discount is still pretty good.
Save AU$85
Amazon's latest 8-inch smart display is a far cry from the Echo Show 8 we've come to know. It's essentially a tablet now that you can wall mount, and it gives you control of thousands of smart home devices that work over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other connectivity standards like Zigbee, Matter and Thread. You stream video, even security footage, start routines, add widgets and a heck of a lot more you can't with a regular Echo Show.
Save AU$103
It's been cheaper before but it's one of the best video doorbells you can get in Australia. It's easy to install, offers clear footage even at night and features facial recognition. Recording automatically begins when motion is detected, or when its button is pressed, plus it will let you know when packages have been left outside your door.
Smartwatches and fitness trackers
Up to AU$800 trade-in value
If you're keen on upping your fitness regime, you'll get features like Intelligent Coaching, advanced tracking for some exercises, dual-frequency GPS and a decent battery life from Samsung's latest smartwatch. Cameras
Save AU$950
It's our pick for one of the best vlogging cameras money can buy and it is an expensive investment. But this discount shaves off a decent 25% off the asking price. From YouTube and TikTok videos to basically any live streaming needs you might have, the Sony ZV-E1 is the perfect camera to shoot your vlogs. It's next level with stunning 4K video up to 120fps. Available in black and white via the same listing – but keep in mind it's body only and you'll need to buy a lens separately.

This mid-range camera might have been designed for a beginner but it's got features it inherits from Canon's more premium offerings. High-speed RAW capture, the same autofocus prowess of the more expensive R-series cameras, dual SD cards, 4K video and 32.3MP on tap, and that's just for starters. Did we mention the 40fps continuous shooting speed and in-body stabilisation? And you get a lens in the box too. Plus there's a bonus AU$400 July Luggage or SnapWireless voucher than can be claimed via redemption from Canon before October 23.

It's smaller than the previous Instax Mini cameras before it, and it comes with better power and lens control without compromising on its ease of use. If it's a fun little instant camera you're after, this is one of the best you can get, but note that the Mini line is different from the Instax Square range in offering smaller credit card-sized prints. At the time of writing, only the pink model is discounted less than the $99 Prime Day price in July, while the other colours (aside from Blue, which is unavailable) are down to AU$99.
Save AU$173
Rebranded to be part of the OM System lineup, this the latest in the Tough rugged camera range that Olympus began. Bridge cameras have made a small comeback thanks to Panasonic resurrecting the Lumix FZ80 in July this year. Featuring an 18MP 1/2.3-inch sensor, a USB-C port for charging and a 2,360K-dot OLED EVF that's better than before, and an upgraded rear LCD with 1,840K dots resolution, it's quite the upgrade. You also get 60x optical zoom via its 20-200mm fixed lens to get you closer to the action, with the handling of a DSLR and the simplicity of use of a point-and-shoot.
Kitchen & home appliances
Save AU$130

It has a 5.7L basket that can feed two to three people, and it offers simple controls for one-touch air frying, baking or roasting.
Vacuums

If you’re looking to add a serious speed boost to your portable storage, you could do a hell of a lot worse than the Samsung T7 1TB SSD, that currently has a generous 47% discount. It's not the very cheapest we have seen, but this discount is very slightly better than Prime Day in July and we think it's well worth a look. Compatible with PC, Mac, Android devices, gaming consoles and more, there’s a lot of value in this small package.
If you need more storage, the 2TB model has a even bigger 53% discount, and is now AU$222.92.

A happy 20% off this brilliant Alienware panel, which scored a raving 92 / 100 review from our pals over at PC Gamer. The monitor used Samsung's new QD-OLED tech to give a 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution, 240Hz refresh rate (supporting AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync) and a 0.03ms response time. While not an all time low, the price here is only AU$8 higher than during Prime Day back in July.

Amazon Prime Day 2024: all you need to know
When was Amazon Prime Day 2024?
The main Prime Day sale took place on July 16 to 21 this year, becoming the first ever 6-day Prime Day event. Interestingly only Australia and Singapore were treated to this long sale, with the UK and US sticking to the 48-hour formula that's been used previously.
Will this trend continue? Who knows? Perhaps it will, especially if it proves to be a roaring success for Amazon. The retailer's other sales, like Big Smile and Mid-Year, are usually about a week long, so if there a trend of long sales picking up on Amazon, we're all for it.
Will there be a second Prime Day in October 2024?
We had our first-ever Prime Big Deal Days sale last year, which was essentially a second Prime Day sale as it was for members only too. And Amazon has confirmed this second sale is making a comeback this October, which will take place between October 8-13, making it another 6-day shopping marathon for Prime members.
This second sale is a prelude to Amazon's Black Friday sale for 2024, and a good opportunity to get your Christmas shopping started if you don't want to wait till end November.
What is Prime Day in Australia?
Amazon Prime Day began in the US in 2015 as a celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary, with more deals on offer than Black Friday back then. Today, Prime Day is Amazon’s popular mid-year sales event where members of Amazon Prime get exclusive discounts on a wide range of items.
While it began as a one-day sale, 2018 saw the offers last for 36 hours, which then became a 65-hour in 2019. We've had the 65-hour sale since and thought that was 'recording breaking' – oh boy, were we wrong. This year, for the first time ever, the Prime Day sale is going to be a marathon 6 days, or 144 hours if you want an hourly comparison!
When was Amazon Prime Day 2023?
Amazon Prime Day 2023 kicked off at 00:01am AEST on July 11 and local Aussie deals were available until 11:59pm AEST on July 12. Unlike the US or the UK, we've had extended Prime Day sales in Australia since 2019 as we get to shop international offers on the local site that ship from Japan, Germany, the UK and the US. So until the sale ends on the US West Coast, our sale continues – a full 65 hours! So the Australian Prime Day in 2023 ended at 5pm AEST on July 13.
As mentioned, this was then followed by a second Prime Day sale in early October 2023 that lasted 48 hours.
This year, though, things were different. With the sale lasting for just 48 hours in other countries, the Aussie Prime Day sale included the international discounts within the 6-day sale period.
Why does Amazon have Prime Day?
Prime Day is presented as a neat ‘thank you’ to Amazon's paying members, but one that involves giving Amazon more money and shifting a lot of stock at the same time.
Prime Day isn’t just about selling Amazon-branded products – several other brands and third-party sellers also save their best deals for Prime Day, completely aware that thousands of extra shoppers will be hitting the online store.
To make the most of Prime Day you’ll need to get yourself an Amazon Prime membership which, in Australia, will set you back AU$9.99 a month or AU$79 a year. While you’re paying for the privilege of free, swift delivery on domestic and international goods, signing up for Prime means you’ll also have free access to Amazon’s streaming services, including Prime Video, Prime Music and Prime Reading. Members also get free access to Prime Gaming and Prime Photos for all their ebook and storage needs. To learn more about this service, head to our guide to what is Amazon Prime in Australia.
How often is Prime Day in a year?
Amazon Prime Day is typically held only once a year, usually in July. However, Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days seems to now be an annual event that matches the July offers, so we could sorta, kinda say that Prime Day is 'unofficially' held twice a year. With the confirmation of the second instalment of Big Deal Days, it's fair to expect this trend to continue for the foreseeable future.
How much will Amazon Prime cost in 2024?
Amazon Australia announced a price hike for its Prime subscription in 2023, and now costs AU$9.99 per month (up from AU$6.99) or AU$79 annually (from AU$59).
While that might seem like a steep price hike, it could still be well worth it if you shop quite regularly on Amazon – even a single item costing less than AU$20, for example, can be delivered to you in a day or two for free if it's Prime eligible. Plus you get access to more of Amazon's services, including Prime Video.
Check out our dedicated page on what is Amazon Prime to find out if it's really worth the money. And click on the buttons below if you'd like to sign up and get a 30-day free trial.
How do I become an Amazon Prime member?
To be eligible for the Prime-exclusive offers, you need to sign up for a Prime membership for AU$9.99 per month or AU$79 for the whole year.
1. Go to Amazon Prime
2. Select: start your free trial
3. Follow the instructions
4. Start browsing deals
You can start a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial and use that to get access to the sale. This option is only available to brand-new members who haven't used the free trial in the past, though.
As well as access to the deals, you also get to try out all the other Amazon Prime benefits while on the free trial, such as free delivery, Prime Video, Prime Gaming and more.
You can get more information from our dedicated 'what is Amazon Prime' page for a full breakdown of the service. You can also use that to decide whether you want to keep your membership going after the sale or cancel Amazon Prime within the one-month trial period to avoid being charged.
Amazon Prime Big Deal Days 2024: our deal predictions
While we can't say for sure what exactly will be discounted on Amazon during Prime Day, there are some guaranteed offers that you will see, while we can extrapolate for the others from previous sales on Amazon.
Of course, each major Amazon sale – whether Prime Day or Black Friday – is spearheaded by the company's own devices. So we can say for sure you're going to see some pretty steep price drops on the likes of the Fire TV Stick 4K, Echo Dot and Kindle. In fact, the Echo Pop has been remarkably cheap, going for just AU$29 a pop (ahem). Arguably the best Prime Day deal this year was the massive price drop on the Kindle Scribe, with the 16GB variant dropping to just AU$349 (a discount of AU$200).
As for other products, this entirely depends on how it fits into each brand's plans for Prime Day 2. We've previously seen deals go live on Amazon 24 hours ahead of the official sale start, so there's a reasonable chance that a few big brands could get involved ahead of time with Amazon's exclusive Prime-member event. Based on that, expect laptops, headphones, smartphones and more popular electronics to feature alongside Amazon's own hardware.
If you've got a new Apple device in mind, though, it could be a good time to save big on last-generation hardware and some of the latest models released that year. We'll have a close eye on the iPad 10.2 as well as the popular MacBook Air and the Apple Watch 9. This could be the time when the cheapest-ever prices appear and previous record-lows are broken.
If we hear any more news over the coming months, we'll be sure to share it right here and update our predictions with the latest information.
Amazon Prime Day 2024: shopping tips
How to find the best Prime Day deals
1. Grab an Amazon Prime free trial
If you're not a Prime member yet, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial just ahead of the big sale and cancel before it ends if you don't want to continue with the service. This way, you get all the benefits of Amazon Prime without paying for it, albeit for a short period of time.
2. Know what you want to buy – but stay flexible
Having a good understanding of exactly what you want to get out of Amazon Prime Day 2024 will be key to winning this year. That way you'll be able to quickly recognise how good that discount really is, but stay flexible enough to know whether you should opt for another model. For example, if you need a new laptop or camera, take a look at what features each brand offers, perhaps take a look at a few in person by visiting a store. Find a few options you would be happy to pick up, get to know their prices and how cheap they can be so that you can identify a good deal quickly on the day.
However, it's also worth identifying the features that you could sacrifice in order to boost the specs that you really care about – you don't want to miss out on the best Prime Day deals just because the specific model you had in mind isn't discounted.
3. Keep some of that flexibility in your budget
Obviously it's never a good idea to get caught up in the heat of the moment and spend crazy money for the sake of a good deal. However, a little room above your maximum spend will be helpful in securing the best-value deals available. Sometimes the best Prime Day deals aren't on the cheapest items, but on the next level up that offers so much more without boosting the price too much. For example, if you're looking for a laptop you might be tempted by a super low price on a 256GB storage option. However, if the 512GB model is just AU$100 to AU$150 more expensive it's a far better investment.
4. Get in early, but stick around for the full event
When the day itself comes, we'd recommend heading to Amazon as early as possible. This will give you first eyes on the biggest discounts Amazon is offering on the first day, and because many of the hottest Prime Day deals tend to run out of stock particularly quickly, you may need to move fast.
However, just because you've managed to secure an incredible discount straightaway shouldn't mean your work is done. Amazon releases plenty more high-profile savings throughout the course of the two-day event, so it's worth checking back in throughout as well.
5. You're not limited to Amazon – price check and price match
Amazon Prime Day isn't strictly limited to Amazon. We see more and more retailers offering competing discounts these days, and that extra competition often drives prices even lower. It's worth checking other retailers aren't beating your Prime Day deals, but even if they aren't, some like JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and others will be offering price-matching guarantees and you may snag additional extras as well.
How to find other Amazon deals
Amazon doesn't always do a great job of promoting the best Prime Day deals. Sure, it will shout about many of its own devices and other well-known products that are on sale, but it's often worth looking beyond these highlighted deals for some even better savings. We do a lot of that searching for you and share our favourite offers right here, but here's some more advice on how to find the best Prime Day deals.
Before the sale begins is a good place to start. In the run-up to Prime Day, Amazon usually has a few offers live that are a tease for the big event. These aren't usually some of the biggest products, but can still be tempting bargains. We sometimes see reductions on its own subscription services such as Audible, Music Unlimited and Kindle Unlimited during this window, making it a good time to sign up.
We also strongly encourage you to keep an eye on Amazon Warehouse deals. We often see store-wide discounts of up to 20% across this selection of second-hand, used and open-box products. All items are checked, tested and Amazon-approved before they go back on sale, plus they are covered by the standard returns policy, so you don't have to worry if you run into any issues. Generally, it's an excellent option to bag an even bigger bargain.
Prime Day vs Black Friday – should you wait?
Both Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday generally offer discounts on the same kinds of devices, but there are a few differences between the sales events.
Prime Day deals are largely focused on Amazon itself. Competition among shoppers is also significantly reduced on Prime Day, which means that deals are generally easier to find, easier to price check and won't run out of stock so quickly.
Black Friday, on the other hand, is set across a much larger range of retailers, with prices that tend to be a little cheaper across a wider variety of brands. That does mean putting in a lot more work to make sure you get the best offer possible and keeping a close eye out for limited-time flash sales that make up for most of those lowest recorded prices. With more competition between retailers, though, we do tend to see slightly heavier discounts in November.
Of course, you may also simply want your tech sooner. If so, we wouldn't recommend waiting another month for the chance of a better discount, which may or may not come your way. There's no guarantee that prices will be any different come Black Friday, especially on Amazon products. You may find some older tech for even less, but then you also run the risk of missing out on the best deals due to the increase in competition.
Moreover, keep in mind we've never had a Prime Big Deal Days sale before, so we're as yet uncertain how well the prices will compare to Black Friday. So if you can hold on for a month or so, you could wait to see what happens during November's bumper sale.

iPad 10.2-inch (2021) | AU$549 AU$398 (AU$151 off)
This was the all-time low price we saw on the 9th-generation iPad during EOFY and reappeared again in July, which is excellent news as it usually hovers at the AU$427 mark. It's a few years old now but it still holds up as a mighty impressive tablet that does the basics incredibly well. If you're after an affordable tablet in Apple's ecosystem that can handle entertainment, a bit of light work and some video calls, it's perfect if you can pick it up again at this price.
Samsung Galaxy S23 (Phantom Black) | AU$1,199 AU$721 (AU$478 off)
If you were looking for a quality phone at budget prices, this deal on the Galaxy S23 was hard to ignore. With a 50MP camera, snappy performance and long-lasting battery packed into maybe the most comfortably sized phone, we thoroughly enjoyed it in our Galaxy S23 review and is essentially a flagship at a mid-range price.
Bose QuietComfort SC | AU$499.95 AU$282.15 (AU$217.80 off)
These are #1 bestselling headphones on Amazon for a reason, even before a mighty 41% discount – and this is based on the official RRP of the cans and not on Amazon's listed price (which was the previous discount). While they are often around AU$349, this discounted price of AU$297 was the lowest price we'd seen on Amazon.
Meta Quest 3 (128GB) | was AU$796.99 AU$699.99 (AU$200 off)
The Meta Quest 3 plummeted down to a new all-time low price on Amazon (previously having dropped to AU$772), giving you the chance to enter the world of VR gaming for less. There was also a bonus game ready for you to try right out of the box! It was an ace deal.
Apple Watch 9 (GPS) | from AU$649 from AU$534 (up to AU$115 off)
The Apple Watch 9 had dropped to a record low during Prime Day in July. Several models of the Apple Watch 9 were discounted to various degrees, so whether you needed the 41mm or the 45mm, with or without LTE connectivity and a choice of bands, there was plenty to choose from.
Dyson Gen5detect Absolute | AU$1,549 AU$878.75 (AU$670.25 off)
With a delightful 43% off RRP, this was a fantastic price on a stick vac that can reveal hidden dust on hard floors thanks to a specially designed light built into the Fluffy Optic cleaner head. Dyson calls this its most powerful HEPA cordless vacuum, and the Gen5detect has 262AW of suction power yet can trap up to 99.99% of particles and houses.
